# Starting point: near-zero knowledge, and the conception-vs-gestational dating confusion

Greg came in with a positive test (30 Aug 2026) and a conflict between the home test's "1–2 weeks since conception" and the doctor's "3–4 weeks". This was his first question, which tells us the gestational clock convention (dating from LMP, ~2 weeks before conception) was genuinely non-obvious to him — as it is to most people. Lesson 1 was built around resolving it, because every date downstream depends on getting this right.

Established prior knowledge: **near zero**. First child, UK/NHS, no systematic exposure. Assume no terminology.

## Implications
- Define every term; maintain the [[glossary]] rigorously and adhere to it.
- Do not assume he knows what a midwife does, what "booking" means, or that self-referral has replaced the GP route in most of England.
- The mission spans all four fronts (supporting her, logistics, birth, newborn care) — so lessons should rotate rather than exhaust one front.
- Pacing is **front-load**: give the map early, depth later. Lesson 1 deliberately included the full 40-week appointment table.
